Toothology sets aside time for emergency visits and aims to provide same-day treatment when the schedule allows. We welcome both new and returning patients. The office is open on Saturdays and closed on Sundays; we are not a 24-hour practice.

Problems That Need Prompt Dental Care
Call Toothology if you are dealing with:

- A chipped, cracked, or broken tooth or veneer
- A knocked-out or loose adult tooth
- A lost filling or loose crown, bridge, or denture
- Swelling or an inflamed bump on the gums
- Bleeding that does not settle with gentle pressure

If you have uncontrolled bleeding, serious facial trauma, trouble breathing, trouble swallowing, or rapidly spreading swelling, seek emergency medical care first.
Hospital Or Dentist?
A hospital emergency room can manage pain, fever, and infection that has spread, but it is rarely set up to treat the tooth itself. For a toothache, broken tooth, lost crown, or knocked-out tooth, a dental office is where the problem actually gets fixed. Head to the ER first when the concern is bigger than the tooth: a facial injury, a fever with facial swelling, trouble opening your mouth, or anything affecting breathing or swallowing. If you are unsure, call us and we will help you decide.
What To Do Before You Reach The Office
Stay calm and call us. A cold compress held against the outside of your face may help with swelling. For a knocked-out permanent tooth, handle it by the crown rather than the root and keep it moist in milk or a saline solution while you travel to care. Do not scrub the root, and do not let the tooth dry out.
If a crown comes off, keep it and bring it with you. Do not use household glue. A chipped or broken tooth can leave a sharp edge that cuts your tongue or cheek; a small piece of dental wax or sugar-free gum pressed over the edge can protect the soft tissue until we see you. Gentle salt-water rinsing may soothe irritated tissue, but it does not replace treatment for infection or injury.
For pain, an over-the-counter reliever taken as directed can help. Never place aspirin directly on the gum or tooth; it can burn the tissue and make things worse.
These steps are temporary. The right solution depends on an exam and X-rays.

Getting You Comfortable
If nerves or a sensitive gag reflex make treatment hard, tell us. Toothology offers laughing gas, oral sedation, and IV sedation, and some options can be arranged even on short notice depending on your health history and what you have eaten that day.
Treating The Problem
Treatment depends on the diagnosis. Your options may include repairing a tooth, replacing a restoration, calming an infection, root canal therapy, or removing a tooth that cannot be predictably saved. When appropriate and available, same-day treatment can help you leave in a better place than you arrived.
Planning The Long Term
Our team explains the plan before care begins. Some emergencies are fully resolved in one visit; others need a follow-up, such as a permanent crown after a root canal or a replacement plan for a tooth that had to be removed. We map that out with you and give you an estimate of expected out-of-pocket costs. Can A Knocked-Out Tooth Be Saved?
Often, yes, if you act quickly. Keep the tooth moist in milk or saline, handle it only by the crown, and get to the office as soon as you can. The best odds come within the first hour. Even if the tooth cannot be replanted, we will protect the area and talk through replacement options.
