A Brighter Smile Without The Guesswork
Coffee, tea, age, and everyday life leave their mark on enamel. Teeth that were once bright can look dull even when they are healthy. Professional whitening lifts those stains with stronger, better-controlled products than anything sold on a store shelf.
At Toothology, our Scottsdale team checks your teeth and gums before whitening begins. That exam tells us whether your stains will respond and which method fits your timeline.
Two Ways To Whiten
One-Visit In-Office Whitening
If you want noticeable results fast, in-office whitening is the quickest path. We protect your gums, apply a professional-strength gel, and refresh it in timed rounds during one appointment. Most people see teeth several shades lighter by the time they leave.
Custom Take-Home Trays
Prefer to whiten at your own pace? We scan your teeth with our 3Shape scanner and make trays that fit only you. You wear the trays for a set period each day and watch your shade change gradually over one to two weeks.
Complimentary Whitening For New Patients
New patients at Toothology receive complimentary teeth whitening after completing their initial exam and cleaning. No catch. Details are on our financial page.
Which Stains Respond To Whitening
- Yellow and brown surface stains from food, drinks, and tobacco typically lighten well
- Gray tones, which often come from injury, certain medications, or changes deep inside the tooth, may respond only partially
- Internal discoloration from an old root canal or a single dark tooth may call for a different approach
Whitening gel only changes natural tooth structure. Crowns, veneers, fillings, and bonding keep their original color. If you have visible dental work, we will talk through keeping everything even, which may mean updating a restoration through cosmetic dentistry.
What To Expect During Whitening
Exam And Shade Check
We look at your enamel, gums, and existing dental work, then record your starting shade with a shade guide and photos so you can see the before and after for yourself.
Your Whitening Session
For in-office whitening, we isolate your gums and apply the gel in rounds. For take-home trays, we scan your teeth, fit your trays, and show you exactly how much gel to use.
The First 48 Hours
Freshly whitened enamel picks up stain more easily. For two days, skip coffee, tea, red wine, cola, berries, red sauces, soy sauce, and smoking.
Managing Sensitivity
Some people feel brief zings of sensitivity for 24 to 72 hours. A sensitivity toothpaste and a break from very hot or cold drinks usually settle it. Full aftercare details are in our whitening post-op instructions.
Caring For Your Take-Home Trays
Your custom trays can last for years with simple care. Rinse them with cool water after each use. Never use hot water, and keep the trays out of direct sunlight and away from heat, which can warp the plastic. Store them in their case, out of reach of pets.
A Note On Pregnancy And Timing
Whitening products have not been studied enough in pregnancy and breastfeeding for us to recommend them during that time. If you are expecting, we are happy to plan your whitening for after your baby arrives.
Questions, Answered
Teeth Whitening FAQs
How White Will My Teeth Get?
Results depend on your starting shade and the type of stain. Many patients lighten several shades, but enamel has a natural limit. We will show you a realistic target using the shade guide before we start.
Is Professional Whitening Safe?
Yes, when it is done after an exam and with the right protection for your gums.
How Long Do Whitening Results Last?
Often a year or more, depending on your habits. Coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco bring stains back faster. Periodic touch-ups with your take-home trays help keep the brightness going.
Will My Teeth Be Sensitive Afterward?
Some patients feel temporary sensitivity for 24 to 72 hours. It fades on its own.
How Do I Take Care Of My Trays?
Rinse with cool water, brush gently, and store them in their case away from heat, sunlight, and pets. Avoid hot water, which can change the fit.
Is The New-Patient Whitening Really Free?
It is. Complete your new-patient exam and cleaning, and whitening is our complimentary welcome gift. Details are on our financial page or a phone call away.
